CNY Day 01| 压岁钱

压岁钱 means money given to children as a Chinese Lunar New Year gift which is usually put in a red envelope or paper bag.  And that is how we start our first day of the Lunar New Year! And while we give red packets to our little ones, we wish them well in chinese to them!
This year 2023, our whole family is decked in red on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Jade's red dress is from Cotton On Kids, a birthday present from one of our dear friends. The boy's new year shirts are from our Bangkok trip. Last minute buys from the market before heading to the airport!
See how little Jade is just as excited about receiving the red packets when it isn't her turn yet!

Above: different red packets for my children and my nephews, helper and of cos their godma.

CNY Even | Dinner at my mum's!

Happy New Year! Every year, reunion dinner will be held at my mum's place and this year is no different. We brought the lou hei over and mum already spent the whole afternoon cooking up a feast for us.

Ngor Hiong, she did it all by herself, slightly fried too long in the air fryer but nonetheless very tasty. Garlic Tiger prawns, braised vegetables, broccoli with abalone and seafood soup.

We ate until we were so full that we couldn't move.

CNY Eve | Lunch at Ban Heng

Happy Lunar New Year!!! I'm so excited about holidays!!! Especially the lunar new year where everyone can gather and have so many reunion lunch and dinner. A time for goodies, a time for chit-chats and all things merry.

This year our reunion lunch was at Orchid Country Club Ban Heng. They were short of staff as they couldn't keep up with our requests of filling up our tea pot, getting green chillies for our noodles, they even didn't get our number of plates/cutlery right. So service wasn't top-notch and really needs improvement.
Steam sea bass! Lovely. We also had their suckling pig, braised dried oysters with spinach and baby abalone, XO chilli broccoli with prawns and lou hei.

After our reunion lunch, my FIL suggested for all the little ones to have a go at bowling! All the children enjoyed it very much, though probably the 1st 20 mins or so...then Clarus and Julius went off to look at some hornet's nest. Even little Jade at the age of 6 didn't really enjoy it as the bowling ball was too heavy for her. So only Jules and James enjoyed the game.

Above: boys wearing matching outfits. Actually I can't remember where I bought their matching polo tees. Well, it is either from Cotton On Kids or Uniqlo.
