Velle Cooks \\ Pork Hock Bak Kut Teh

Saturday lunch - Bak Kut Teh using pork hock!
Something new for me. I usually buy prime ribs for my bak kut teh but this time round, there was a really good deal online for pork hock and so I bought one kilo to try. And the results was not bad!

Velle Cooks \\ Prata Sausage Rolls

A quick prata hack using frozen prata and sausages. In 20mins (200 deg in the oven for 20 mins), I can serve sausage rolls to my kids for breakfast! Here i added an egg wash topped with roasted sesame seeds.

Here's what we had for lunch. Cooked by my helper.
Fishball spinach beehon soup. Light and healthy!

Velle Cooks \\ Pumpkin Rice

I love pumpkin rice but my kids don't really like.
Not sure why, probably they ate too much during my confinement time? My confinement nanny cooked pumpkin rice for me and my family several times, a taste which I still have not managed to replicate. Although she taught me how to cook it, step by step...hahah, somethings are hard to copy exactly, especially taste.

Today, for dinner I whipped up something simple.
  1. Pumpkin rice,
  2. big fishcake (bought from NTUC),
  3. spinach dumpling soup and
  4. steamed mince pork.

Home Made New Year Cookies

It is our 2nd year making Chinese New Year goodies. This time round, the kids did much better than the year before. These are normal sugar cookies. And after baking the first batch, I realised they look much prettier if they are not too brown. So do keep a lookout during your baking and when you see the edges turning brown, it's time to take them out from the oven.

Today looks quite gloomy for a bake, but it didn't dampen the kids' mood. Anytime, any day is always a good time for them! The kids are always ready for baking, but not so much for me. haha, it's always alot of work and cleaning up on my part.

But, I'm always happy to see them enjoying themselves, though Jade and James had little patience and went somewhere else to play after cutting some cookie dough out. Jules being the eldest, did all the rolling and cookie cutting. He really did a good job and I could see his patience and determination in this exercise.

above: Jules did all the cookie cutting and a job well done is getting the molds out so clean and clear.
