It's the School Holidays in March and we didn't have much planning but one of my close colleague was getting married and she was holding her wedding in Penang and invited me to attend. So I packed my bags, booked air tickets for the whole family and off we went for 5 days and 4 night in Sunny Penang.
I didn't plan much since we were there for a short getaway. We only had 2.5 full days to sightsee in Penang, eat all the local delights, locate enough time at the swimming pool and visit the beach since we were staying at Batu Ferringhi. The other day was spent shuttling between hotels and attending the wedding dinner.
I managed to obtain good tickets from AirAsia, booked a Grab and off to Changi airport Terminal 4! It was my first time at T4 and it was looking good!!!
getting our WIFI from Changi Airport. So convenient and affordable!
boys posing while hubs was getting the WIFI, there was a short queue but it didn't take long.
After we did our self check in, self check in luggage too, we went into the departure halls. I needed to get some beauty products from the shops. Hubs gathered to kids at the waiting lounge where there was some arcade games to keep the kids occupied.
Just below the food centre, there's an indoor garden with koi fishes. Brought the kids there to while the time away. Lots of lovely air plants hanging from the metal sculpture.
But i was so hungry as it was lunch time that we were flying off.
Everyone boarded Airasia on time! And because everyone was punctual, we arrived Penang 20 mins ahead of schedule. Wonderful news and well done AirAsia!
The last time Jade took a flight, she was so young, about 5 months old!! I don't think she remembered any of it. This round she roughly knew that she was on an aeroplane and going to fly into the skies to see clouds.
Pre-ordered my inflight light meal - sandwiches and cup of water.
The kids loved it and ate all up.
Once we reached Penang, going through the Immigrations was pretty quick and once we were outside the airport, we used Grab to hire a car and hopped to Hard Rock Hotel Penang. The journey was pretty long, approx 1.5 hours. Have to use all sorts of methods to keep the kids occupied. Hubs brought 2 spare phones with videos and games for the boys. And I was left with wits' end to entertain Jade.
Reached Hard Rock Hotel Penang about 3pm. Had our welcome drinks - rose syrup water...erm. It was refreshing on a hot day, but not my cup of tea. Check in, wash up, unpack all the toiletries and because lunch was so light, we decided to have an early dinner and to check out Long Beach Hawker.
As we arrived about 530pm, it was not crowded at all and all the street night markets were not opened for business too. We ordered so much food!!!
Jade yawning here as she skipped her afternoon nap.
My first bowl of Penang Laksa!!!
Char Kway Teow and Oyster Omelette
BBQ Grilled prawns and Pomfret for the kids.
10 sticks of chicken satay
If you are staying at Batu Ferringhi and want to try many local Penang food, the easiest place to visit is Long Beach. I wouldn't say that they serve really quality food, but the variety is quite extensive, from Penang mince pork noodles, Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Orh Lua, BBQ, Western (we tabao a chicken chop back to our hotel), Satay, Korean food, Tze Char...so many but we only tried a few stalls.after dinner, if it was just me and hubs, I probably walk back to the hotel while strolling through the night market but the kids were tired from their plane ride and insisted on getting a grab.
so that's pretty much Day 1 in Penang!
