March Holidays - Bangkok Day 1 (Travelling with kids)

It's the 3rd day of the March Holidays.

And we are bringing the boys to BANGKOK! I managed to secure really good prices on SG at the beginning of the year and so the 4 of us are now going for a short holiday to BKK! Jules is coming to 6 years and James is 4 years now and they are all "walkable" age and so we thought to ourselves since we managed to bring them all to Danang and changing hotels halfway....probably we could do a city tour too and not always bringing them to beach resorts.
took a cab and stuffed 2 big luggages at the back of the cab and off we went to Changi Airport T2.
the flight took 2 hours and 25 mins, just enough time for Jules to watch a Pokemon Movie.
the kids were given headsets and their meals arrived much earlier than the rest of us.
Upon reaching Bangkok's airport, after collecting our luggage, you will find many telcos offering data services. We went with dtac and bought the 8 days unlimited internet for 299baht. It was really crowded but we beat the queue by using the automated machine by ourselves. or rather there was another sales person standing there idling and she offered to help us. hahha....
After you leave the airport, if you are planning on taking the cab, you will need to find the taxi queue with an automated booth that will issue you tickets and tell you which taxi bay to go to. The taxi driver will ask for your queue ticket. Our taxi ride came up to about $400baht with all the toll charges.
Reached our hotel and checked in. We washed up and ASIATIQUE here we come!
Didn't know the window ledge can be utilised like this! it's not even a bay window.
Apparently the walk to the BTS station (Siam Station) was quite a feat for my 2 boys. They had to stop halfway to drink some water because they were hot and tired.
Once we reached there, we bought 4 tickets which costed us $148baht. Actually we only found out much later that James was free because children under 90cm gets to travel free everyday on the BTS.
We stopped at Saphan Taksin, took Exit 2 and walked straight to the Ferry terminal. Keep left and you will see the Asiatique sign. The ferry ride is FREE!

Once we reached Asiatique, I was famished. So we decided to eat at Ko Dang Talay.

Ordered 2 bottles of Chang Classic beer for myself and hubs, cabbages with fish sauce, fried rice wiht shrimps, prawn balls, calamari, stir fried clams and pepper scallops. The seafood was fresh but the downside was whilst we were eating happily, the whole entire Asiatique went black out!

and it was dark for a good whole hour!!! So we were really fortunate that we managed to see the menu in the daylight, eaten quite a fare bit before it turned dark and the power tripped. Many of the tourists who arrived much later than us, had to use their mobile's lights to see the menu in the dark and eat in the dark!

The other side of Asiatique with the Ferris wheel and some little makan stalls had their own back up lights. So we went to eat some sticky mango rice. The 2 boys only like the sweet mango, hubs finished the sticky gooey rice.
Tickets for the Ferris wheel is not cheap. If I had known that we will be sitting on the Ferris Wheel, probably would have bought the tickets from Klook.
The wheel went around 3 times and the boys loved every bit of it.

After the Ferris Wheel ride, we went to walk around Asiatique and found this quaint ice cream shop called Cha Tra Mue and tried their Matcha Durian soft serve. The kids loved it! and they don't eat durian....so let's just say the ice cream was sweet and the durian taste was mixed with green tea, so it wasn't very pungent for the kids.

James cried like out of the blue...and after coaxing him very long on why he was crying, he said he wanted to sit on the roller coaster!!! OMG. so hubs went to buy tickets for it and we all went on it.
we called it a night pretty early since the kids woke up early for their flight and had so much walking for the first day in bangkok.
Back at the hotel where the boys showered and changed into their pajamas and having their snacks. C'est la vie!
