Jules #77 - Making Red Eggs
Just the night before the big day, hubs started making red eggs for our little jules' baby shower party at the request of his mother.
We bought a tray of 30 eggs from NTUC but made 20 eggs as we didn't invite that many guests. And we bought a small bottle of cherry red dye.
The eggs were cooked in a pot of boiling water for 10mins with a pinch of salt.
They were left to cool before we dyed them one by one in a bowl of red dye.
All the eggs were coated twice with the red dye.
WHY DO WE NEED RED EGGS?
Traditional cakes and eggs, dyed red to symbolise luck and blessings are given out to relatives and friends. Eggs are chosen as they represent fertility and their round shapes symbolise harmony. It is believed that if you have a boy, you give out an odd number of eggs, and if you have a girl, you give out an even number of eggs.
but we still made an even number of red eggs to be given out.
